Here is just a tiny glimpse of my book, “Get Thee Behind Me”
The smell of fresh blood was in the air. Everywhere I looked, there were bodies…dead bodies. Some I recognized and some I did not…some were family members…some were friends – low and behold, I was the only survivor. But wait a minute, I hear people talking and dogs barking. I see white men with whips and guns in their hands and spying eyes to see if anyone had survived. I quickly trampled over the dead bodies and stumbled over my mom – part of me wanted to cry – part of me wanted to scream. I knew if I did either, they would capture and kill me like they did the others.
